Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji

Friendly faces and fiendish faces
distant trees and distant relatives –
all of these may come and go
like a door shutting and opening
on the inconstant faces of the fiendish moon

Time and times may pass like so many sliding doors
and again there may be the murmured, murderous voices
of faces and distance, of relatives and relativity

But always there is the mountain,
its friendly eye, and its face like a sliding door
